Disenchantment

Neverland has a beauty I will never grow tired of and I brew with excitement at the thought of showing these children this magical land. I look over at my friends, their small frames looking around in awe. They have never seen a place like this and I can see them shaking with excitement, their eyes wide. The grass grows green and tall, rising up to my knees. The flowers bloom so big I find myself wanting to curl up in them and fall asleep. The river sings as the water rushes by, smelling of vanilla. The siblings hold hands, staring at me, wondering what would happen next. I grin at them.

Brimming

She sat in the glow of the setting sun, leaning against a tree, drawing comfort from the serenity of the forest around her. Anyone else might have thought it to be quiet, but not Andy. She could hear the leaves rustle in the wind, the birds chirping songs in the distance, and the twitter of the forest as gossip passed through, eventually making its way to her awaiting ears.

Dream Cottage

Wind whips my hair as I hold tightly to my sister's hand. I know I am scaring her but I need to find shelter. Thunder roars and lightning streaks the sky. I can’t see through the water that seals my eyes shut and the wind that whips my useless hair into my eyes.

Hunter, slow down!” Rosie screams frantically. She trips behind me, yanking my arm back and landing in a pile of mud. She looks like she’s going to cry.

My heart races as I kneel beside her. I can’t think, much less speak. We are going to die.

About Me

Hi! I’m Heather

I am a recent graduate from the University of North Texas looking for a career in Journalism. I have a Bachelors degree in Digital and Print Journalism and Creative Writing. Growing up I read a lot of fiction novels and realized my love for writing creatively. When deciding my career path, I wanted to understand the world I was writing about. UNT taught me how to harness my writing through Journalism. My passion for writing evolved alongside my love for listening to people tell their stories. I worked for Park Cities Peoples Newspaper in Dallas where I published some of my first stories. Now I’m ready to start my next journey to becoming the best writer possible.

Though writing is my strong suit, I also have experience in photography, social media, and design. I hope that my skills can bring to life the human experience and create thought-provoking stories where readers feel connected to the people I’m writing about.

Thank you for visiting my portfolio!
